'Bin it Right app'
This Privacy Statement applies to the Bin it Right mobile device application (Application) that has been developed for Campbelltown City Council. Campbelltown City Council takes the privacy of the users of its applications very seriously and is bound by the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW).
The aim of this Privacy Statement is to outline the management of personal information by Campbelltown City Council in connection with your usage of the Application on Android and iOS and should be viewed collectively with Campbelltown City Council’s Privacy Management Policy.
Account information collected
Campbelltown City Council collects the following information from users:
the age range of the user (e.g. 6-7 years, 8-9 years, 10-11 years, or 12+ years); and
the suburb the user resides in.
In setting up their profile users will be required to provide an account username. It is recommended that the user uses a nickname or alias rather than their full name to pseudonymise their name.
Metadata collected
Campbelltown City Council may also collect the following information when you download and use the Application:
your device’s Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address);
the pages of the Application that you visit, the time and date of your visit, and the time spent on those pages;
the time spent on the Application;
the operating system you use on your mobile device;
the number of times the Application has been downloaded; and
the user’s level of understanding of the educational material (e.g. accuracy of the user’s sorting of recyclable items and common items that are incorrectly sorted).
The Application does not gather precise information about the location of your mobile device.
Why we collect information
We collect the above information in order to:
improve the Application;
to tailor specific education measures to different areas of the Local Government Area; and
to inform future education programmes.
Campbelltown City Council does not and does not allow third parties to use information collected from the Application for marketing or advertising purposes.
Data Retention Policy
Campbelltown City Council will retain user information for as long as you use the Application and thereafter in accordance with Campbelltown City Council’s Privacy Management Policy. If you would like to access or correct your personal information that you have provided via the Application, please contact the Privacy Contact Officer whose details are set out in the ‘Contact Us’ section below.
Disclosure of information to third parties
Campbelltown City Council may periodically transfer encrypted, anonymised game analytic data to third parties to improve the Application. The Application uses third-party service providers that have their own Privacy Policy relating to the handling of data. They may use your information such as your usage data to improve their services and products. Below are the links to their Privacy Policies:
Account information and metadata collected through your use of the Application will be stored in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Australian data centres. AWS adheres to internationally recognised certifications and information security frameworks.
Campbelltown City Council may also disclose user information to other third parties as required by law or to comply with a court order.
Opt-Out Rights
You can stop all collection of information by the Application by uninstalling it. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.
Security
Campbelltown City Council is concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information and has in place physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information it collects and holds.
Changes
Campbelltown City Council reserves the right to make amendments to this Privacy Policy and its Privacy Management Policy at any time for any reason. Campbelltown City Council will notify you of any changes to this Privacy Statement by updating this page with the new Privacy Statement. You are advised to consult this Privacy Statement regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.
